On this journey, she often meets new people and old friends along with new enemies which causes her to learn from them so that she can familiarize herself with them better. Also, she makes a lot of discoveries about the past which she would never have known if it was not for all the places she visited. She wants to find out what is inside the inside of Romania and who is inside that inside. The author also talks about how there are multiple layers of power in a society and how they determine what kind of society we have in Romania today. In this society, there are people who have power and those who do not have power. People who have power are those who have the money and the companies which puts them in a better position to shape things for their own benefit. Those people who do not have power are those who depend on the others so much so that they can’t talk back at all. As time went by, all those people from the lower class started to find ways to get out of that situation which still exists today as it did back then as well as before as a lot of things go through history unchanged. Regardless of the many changes over time, there was one thing that stayed with us which is why Romania is still here today. Romania was able to get out of the past and choose its own way of doing things. While talking about monica’s journey around Romania, she talks about the story of the Academy Of Science which started in the 18th century. She talks about how it evolved throughout time and how it became an institution that had a really big role in helping Romania get out of many different things such as cultural, social and financial crisis. The academy was founded in 1794 by a man named Ion Neculce who later on in 1857 became a member of the academy with all his efforts being recognized by the governing body .
